As horses model healthy functioning and live in the Here and Now, they offer authentic connection and response, they have the ability to evoke positive experiences, curiosity, safety and love and offer a unique experience for healing.
They can offer responses and feedback about our own internal state and patterns, within relationships, therefor the benefits can be such as, improved self worth, connection to others, better self awareness, empowerment, stress and anxiety reduction, better focus, improved communication skills, self control, connectedness, breaking through mental barriers for a fulfilled, happy you.
Equine Assisted Learning, Coaching and Counselling is of great benefit to those struggling with addictions, recovery, wanting to change behaviours, those living with mental health challenges, anxiety, depression, BPD, business, loss, those that are self funded NDIS participants, LGBTIQ, or simply desiring to become a better version of themselves.
Maisey
We’d love to introduce you to one of our support horse’s – Maisey.
She is 14.1 hh, Australian riding pony cross thoroughbred who has had a successful show career and is now become an equine assisted support horse.
Like all of our support horses, Maisey has a wonderful gentle nature. She enjoys tactile contact and has become a favourite with our clients.
Luciano (Favory Liria II)
Let’s give a big warm welcome to ‘Hope Cottage’s’ latest member to the herd – Luciano!
Luciano is a pure bred Lipizzaner. He is approximately 16hh and 16 year’s old.
He is a very sensitive gentle man who loves human company and compassion, but also needs support of his new herd and human’s himself. He tries so hard to please, as he is learning himself.
We’re sure that he will enjoy and love the new connection’s to be made with client’s as he loves attention, grooming and being around people.

My Story
Meet Jillian Drew
In 2006 I endured great loss, saw the collapse of my husband’s multimillion dollar business, that we had grown over sixteen years. In a heartbeat it was gone, all assets gone, homeless, lost and alone, no income stream, lack of direction and on my knees.
This saw the beginning of my son’s spiral into drug addiction, of which had great impact on the family financially and emotionally, as did his severe mental health challenges and suicidality within Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety, depression and complex PTSD.
Through all of these obstacles, I became determined, and inspired, to begin my own journey into further education. I started with Equine Assisted Learning, from there Counselling, Community Services, AOD and Mental Health, Gestalt Therapy, Master NLP practitioner and Neuro Transformation Therapy (NTT). With the focus on continued learning and to give back where possible to those in need.
I am very fortune to live surrounded by the tranquil Enfield State Forest, just 25 minutes out of Ballarat, with my husband Brad, and share our property with our herd of five beautiful horses; Dior, Maisey, Luciano, Hope and Teddy and our little Frenchie dog, Dolce.
I have been blessed to have had horses in my life for the past forty plus years, with a background in instructing, coaching State Champions in pony club, been an active Adult riding member, showing, dressage and have a passion for Classical Dressage. Horses are my life.
I have a background in working in aged care, out of home care for disadvantaged youth, suicide support and AOD (Alcohol and other drugs) recovery.
(Pictured on our website is Fantasy and Da’Artagnon, who recently deceased, but were a huge part our live’s for over 30 year’s and a big part of the beginning of our business.)

Within my experience working in the AOD sector, I have observed many people struggling on the roller coaster of repetitive behaviours and self-destruction. Where often the root cause is avoided or unattended, and band aids become the solution. This has inspired me to offer a pathway and new opportunities to recovery, and open a safe space for individuals to look deeper for clarity, and explore a calmer way of being
My other profession and passion is working with horses. Here, in nature, I offer an environment by where clients, from all walks of life, can be supported by the horses. I step into relationship with them, accepting them as they are, their uniqueness, respecting their view of the world and how they show up, no expectations or judgement, offering heart listening and meeting them being to being and genuine curiosity.
(Please note that this isn’t a horse-riding program)
If interaction with the horses is not what the person is desiring, a Counselling, room-based option is certainly catered for. I also offer NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Coaching, and this is designed to meet the individual needs.
We can assist you to overcome mental blocks and what they are, unlock your limiting beliefs and unconscious barriers that are preventing you from achieving your life goals and living up to your potential.
This can follow on from the eight-week Horse Wisdom program, or on its own.
